10 cm wide, exumbrella partly smooth, partly with irregular network od nematocysts; 8 (2 times 4) pointed velar lappets in each octant; mouth arms about as long as diameter of isk, without any appendages; 4 blind centripetal canals between adjacent radial canals.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
