Western Central Atlantic: Caribbean Sea to Bermuda, and south to Venezuela. Northwest Atlantic: USA and Canada.

Formation: massive and cerioid, or in short series of several centers. Rudimentary columellae. Septa: thin, with pointed fine teeth. Color: often mottled gray-green; walls and valleys in contrasting color (Ref. 848).
Maximum depth from Ref. 116012. Zooxanthellate (Ref. 116012). Occurs in most reef environments, especially in surge channels (Ref. 848).

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
