Massive encrusting body usually burrowing in the sand from which sharp and corrugated projections arise. Up to 2 cm high and 0.5 cm wide. Orange to yellow externally, slightly lighter internally. Compressible but fragile (Ref. 415).
Minimum depth from Ref. 116509. Growing on deeper areas of the reef over sandy and or muddy bottoms, covered by sediments (Ref. 415).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
