Found inside decaying mangrove roots or on a vertical bank of roots and sediments (Ref. 415); on hard substrate (Ref. 116065); occurs in coarse bottom sediments, often among seagrass (Thalassia testudinum), and embedded in peat bank (Ref. 415, 86424). Solitary (Ref. 1758).

Members of the class Ascidiacea are hermaphroditic; both cross- and self-fertilization is typical. Life cycle: Eggs develop into lecithotrophic larva before metamorphosing into benthic adults.
