Short description आकृति विज्ञान

Calyx conical; up to 2.8 cm wide; peduncle one half to one third as long as height of calyx; arms fairly short, flat equidistant, each with up to 100 or more tentacles; marginal anchors very large, biscuit-shaped, each with a tentacular knob; gonads wide, lancet shaped, widely separated, extending to end of arms with 100 to 150 follicles in 6 to 8 radiating rows.

Small individuals of this species are found attached to filamentous algae, while larger ones are attached to a variety of algae by means of its adhesive disc on the base of their peduncle. It detaches and reattaches by somersaulting using their adhesive organs. Found at depths of 1 to 8m. Feeds on small crustaceans, fly larvae, polychaetes and gastropod mollusks. Preyed upon by fish and nudibranchs (Ref. 87801).
