Two color morphs are known: one uniform tan and the other speckled with numerous red to maroon spots.
Marginal levels of toxicity were detected in this species which may contribute to human poisoning (Ref. 107779). Subtidal (Ref. 106854). Occurs at depths from 10 to 50 m. Rocky to shelly substrates. Subtropical and tropical climates (Ref. 343).
