Stiff to hard. Globular to massive-amorphous with velvety-hispid surface; often buried in sediments or in hard substratum crevices. Pointed or lobed projecting elevations, sometimes with branchlets. Color: light brown-cinnamon to yellowish. Consistency: crumbly, hard, tough.
Found in mangroves (Ref. 86836).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
