Description synthétique Morphologie

Formation: flat to hemispherical, up to 2 m across. Corallites: monocentric, tusk-like, elongated, closely compacted; individual corallites unite only at the colony base. Primary septa: very exsert, spoke-like appearance in situ; with long teeth. Color: uniform gray (Ref. 848).

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
