It is found on all kinds of hard substrates, but is common in lower red algae zone and feeds on red and green algae. It also has a good tolerance for salinity fluctuations and low salinity with values of 15 to 22 psu (Ref. 87801).

Members of the class Polyplacophora are mostly gonochoric. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into lecitotrophic planktonic trocophore larvae (no veliger stage) which later metamorphose and settle on the bottom as young adults.
