Species' maximum length from the Belgian part of the North Sea (Ref. 7882). Found along near-coastal zones in a wide variety of sediment types but preferentially in substrate composition of less than 20% mud (Ref. 7882). Inhabits upper clean sand (Ref. 2780). Also found in areas influenced by estuarine outflows (Ref. 96507). Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam (Ref. 833).
