Maximum size of 1 cm in shells and 3.3 cm in rock (Ref. 95344). Found along the intertidal zone boring in soft rock and shells, particularly abalone, California mussels, and the turban shell, Astraea, and jingle shell, Pododesmus (Ref. 95344).. Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam (Ref. 833).
