Total Length: 24 to 25 cm; Wingspan: 56 cm (Ref. 8812). Forages alone or with conspecifics, and typically forages at night. Feeds by dipping prey from the ocean’s surface on the wing, often pattering the water with feet. Diet consists of fish, squid, coelenterates, crustaceans and insects (Ref. 122680).

It has a disjunct breeding distribution in the north Pacific. The breeding cycle occurs from October to May, peak egg-laying months were from December to January, and by mid-May all the birds have flown from the island.
