Short description Morphology

Valves: Moderately elevated valves; smooth except for growth wrinkles; Colored a light tan covered with a marbling of orange-red, or entirely red. Girdle: Reddish brown with weak maculations and covered with minute, elongated scales.

Slow moving dweller (Ref. 7726). Subtidal to 300 meters (Ref. 289). Found from intertidal to 200 m, on seaweed (Ref. 75835). Common on underside of rocks (Ref. 7726).

Members of the class Polyplacophora are mostly gonochoric. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into lecitotrophic planktonic trocophore larvae (no veliger stage) which later metamorphose and settle on the bottom as young adults.
