Mainly used as an ornamental shell (Ref. 348). Found in intertidal reef flats wherein it is attached to its substrate via its small byssus (Ref. 799). The flattish posterior surface of shell lying horizontally just beneath the surface. Sometimes in dense colonies (Ref. 348). Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam (Ref. 833).
