Definition of Term

lateral scale rows
(English) The number of near-vertical scale rows between the upper end of the gill opening and the base of the caudal fin; sometimes called vertical scale rows. This count is taken on fishes which lack a lateral line or on which the lateral-line scales are difficult to enumerate. (See also: scale, lateral line, morphometric)
