Definition of Term

temperate
(English) Moderate climate with long, warm summers and short, cold winters. Can be subdivided into maritime, continental, steppe, and arid. Air temperature may range from -8 to +30¬įC. Can tolerate minimum water temperatures below 10¬įC and may have problems with water temperatures above 15¬įC. (See also: subtropical, boreal, tropical)
