Definition of Term

compensation
(English) A part of fisheries theory that suggest that at low population sizes changes in growth, size and age at maturity, fecundity or survivorship will result in increased recruitment, also: 1)management activities that replace all or part of fish stocks or their habitat lost through development or other activities, 2)mechanism by which the effect of one factor on a population tends to be counteracted or compensated for by a consequential change in another factor, e.g. compensatory growth, reduction in egg production may be compensated for by an increased survival rate of eggs.
