Environment:  benthic; freshwater; marine; depth range 0 - 5 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific and Western Atlantic: from Clipperton Island, Mexico, east to Florida Bay and south to Argentina. Introduced in Japan, Northeast Pacific and Europe.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Epibenthic, estuarine, euryhaline, found on bay and nearshore (Ref. 111171). Found on the littoral zone, on sandy silt bottom (Ref. 138102). It also occurs in freshwater habitats including hypohaline and hypersaline lakes and rivers (Ref. 138104).
