Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 180 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  It has maximum total length of 30 cm (Ref. 271), and a carapace length of 12 cm (Ref. 4). Minimum depth range from Ref. 122059. Occurs at depths of 0.6 to 180 m, usually between 0.6 to 64 m; on sand or rocks, often in the outer reefs. It feeds on dead animals, detritus, etc. These animals are sluggish and nocturnal and bury themselves in the sand (Ref. 4).
