Distribution:  Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific. Tropical to temperate.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Minimum depth from Ref. 116065. Marine, planktonic; most plentiful below 250 m (Ref. 1134). Filter-feeder. Forms blooms (Ref. 130729).
