Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 1 - 90 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: East Africa to Pakistan and India. Introduced in the Mediterranean.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Maximum depth from Ref.103562. From edge subtidal (Ref. 801) to depths of 90 m on bottom mud or sandy mud substrates (Ref. 8). Juveniles inhabit nearshore and adults deeper water usually less than 50 m (Ref. 801). Members of the order Decapoda are mostly gonochoric. Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer (Ref. 833).
