Distribution:  Southeast Pacific and Southwest Atlantic: Chile, Peru and Argentina. Subtropical, tropical.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found on exposed rocky shores (Ref. 1394). Sometimes enters estuaries and rarely freshwater habitats, where it is marginally sympatric with Lutra canadensis provocax (Ref. 1522).
