Family:  Limidae (file shells)
Max. size:  9 cm SHH (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 0 - 20 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: from East and South Africa, to eastern Polynesia; north to Japan and south to Australia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Generally attached to rocks, the underside of stones or coral slabs, between tide marks and in subtidal waters. Unattached specimens can actively swim, with the long reddish pallial tentacles widely expanded beyond shell margins. Occurs at the mid-tide mark (Ref. 348).
