Environment:  pelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 100 m
Distribution:  Pacific Ocean, Western Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Tropical to subtropical.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  This is a planktonic species (Ref. 85339). Individuals hang motionless with the ventral fin facing down while searching for prey at night; feeds on bioluminescent prey, medusae, siphonophores, crustaceans and salps (Ref. 2376).
