Distribution:  Cosmopolitan.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  It is known to be sensitive to changes in water salinity wherein heavy mortality is observed in low salinity conditions (Ref. 86424). This species was found to contain important pharmacological properties for anti-tumor activity (Ref. 86358). Found on coral reefs. The zooids in the colony are clavate and united at their bases (Ref. 415); they are closely packed and are massive in size, often in hundreds (Ref. 86358). Found on mangrove lagoons (Ref. 1758), on mangrove roots (Ref. 121478).
