Distribution:  Worldwide.
Diagnosis:  Large; handsomely colored (brilliant deep scarlet); elongate sabre-like rostrum, large cephalothorax with conspicuous grooves and ridges, strong posterodorsal spines on the middorsal margins of abdominal somites 3-5 are all quite distinctive; hepatic spine absent; presence of podobranch on pereopod 3 and a large epipod on pereopod 4.
Biology:  Minimum depth from Ref. 96667. Abyssal; benthic detritivore (Ref. 334). An active, necrophagous scavenger (Ref. 97347).
