Environment:  benthic; marine; depth range 11 - 50 m
Distribution:  Northeast Atlantic, Northwest Pacific, Arctic and the Mediterranean: Alaska to Japan and along the shores of northern Europe. Temperate to polar.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Common under stones or among Laminaria roots near low tide mark and below (Ref. 907) and under stones in muddy places where mud is black, slimy and foul (Ref. 930). Occurs at the low tide mark.
