Environment:  benthic; marine
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific and the Mediterranean: from Madagascar to eastern Polynesia; north to southern Japan and south to New Caledonia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Collected for food by villagers from the Southeast Asian area to eastern Polynesia (Ref. 349). Common on rocky shores exposed to wave action, from mid-intertidal zone to shallow subtidal levels. Occurs at the mid tide mark (Ref. 349). Nacellidae are herbivores, grazing on algae and lichens (Ref. 108684).
