Family:  Bolinopsidae (sea walnuts)
Max. size:  15 cm H (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; marine; depth range 8 - 1270 m
Distribution:  Arctic, Indo-Pacific, Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean and Antarctic: throughout the Arctic, from Svalbard, then south to South Shetland Islands. Temperate to polar.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits shallow water (Ref. 116516). Vertically oriented, cruising up or down using ciliated mucous covered oral lobes; feeds on copepods, euphausiids and other small zooplankton (Ref. 2376).
