comments It is known to breed during the months of June to October from Fremantle east to Port Stephens (Ref. 91362). Australian population is about 1 million birds, known to be stable. Possible threats are habitat destruction, predation and disturbance during tourism activities at night that uses powerful searchlights and in turn disorients the birds (Ref. 84934). Known causes of mortality in the area are trauma, drowning, starvation, intoxication, parasites, infection, congenital abnormalities, and others still unknown (Ref. 115258).
